Michael Ellis, the Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, stated that the CIA is increasingly using Bitcoin as a tool for its operations, and that the use of Crypto Assets is related to national security. Ellis mentioned that intelligence agencies are collaborating with law enforcement to track BTC, which is a point of data collection in counterintelligence operations.

Although Ellis's comments suggest that Bitcoin is maturing as an asset, they also reflect the increasing involvement of governments and institutions in Bitcoin and Crypto Assets. This growing participation is contrary to the libertarian and cypherpunk spirit that cryptocurrency initially embodied.
