Trump was asked by a reporter why he hadn't informed Japan and other allies in advance about war plans against Iran.
He said: "We wanted to surprise them. Who knows more about surprise than Japan? Why don't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?"
When Trump made these remarks, the room erupted in laughter. Takaichi Sanae, sitting nearby, widened her eyes, shifted in her chair, and maintained a forced smile on her face.
「On December 7, 1941, the Japanese military launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the U.S. naval base in Hawaii, destroying and damaging multiple American warships and hundreds of aircraft, resulting in approximately 2,400 American deaths. The following day, the United States declared war on Japan.」
