The death toll from the explosion in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo, has risen to 16.

On March 1st, Jinshi Data reported that the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo stated on February 28th that two explosions that occurred in the capital of South Kivu Province, Bukavu, in the eastern part of the country, have resulted in at least 16 deaths and 95 injuries. Corneille Nangaa, leader of the political and military alliance ‘Congolese River Alliance’ affiliated with the anti-government armed group ‘M23 Movement’, held a rally on Independence Square in the center of Bukavu on February 27th, attracting a large crowd. After the rally, two explosions occurred in the square.
