Mark Carney announced his candidacy for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, claiming to be an outsider to the Trudeau government

Abstract generation in progress

Mark Carney, 59, announced on Thursday that he will run for the position of leader of the Liberal Party, seeking to succeed current Prime Minister Trudeau. Carney said he wants to focus on the troubled economy and position himself as an outsider to the Trudeau government. However, the opposition Conservative Party said there is no difference between Carney and Trudeau. ‘As a long-time insider of the Liberal Party, Carney has been an advisor to Trudeau as early as 2020, he is definitely not an outsider.’ Carney’s main competitor seems to be former finance minister Freeland, who resigned last month due to policy differences. The new prime minister is unlikely to stay in office for too long, and the minority government may be overthrown in parliament as early as the end of March, triggering elections. Polls show that the Conservative Party is likely to win the election. Carney served as the Governor of the Central Bank of Canada in 2007 and the Governor of the Bank of England in 2013, becoming the first person to simultaneously head two major central banks.
