#USIranTalksProgress: Diplomatic Breakthrough or Calculated Caution?
Geneva/Tehran/Washington – The hashtag has emerged as a top trend, signaling cautious optimism following a new round of indirect negotiations in Geneva. While both nations deny a full normalization of ties, sources indicate significant movement on two critical fronts: a limited nuclear rollback and a humanitarian prisoner exchange.
The talks, mediated by Oman and Switzerland, reportedly produced a "framework for de-escalation." Leaked summaries suggest Iran has agreed to cap uranium enrichment at 3.67% for the next nine months. In return, the US will issue a sweeping waiver allowing $6 billion of frozen Iranian assets in Iraqi banks to be used exclusively for food and medicine.
"This is not a grand bargain, but it is tangible progress," said a senior Western diplomat familiar with the talks. "Both sides have moved from ultimatums to item-by-item trust-building."
However, hardliners on both ends remain skeptical. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) criticized the talks as "a honey trap," while US Republican senators have vowed to block any deal that doesn't dismantle Tehran’s drone program.
For ordinary citizens, the hashtag reflects desperate hope. "I don't need a photo op. I need my elderly father’s heart medicine," wrote one Iranian user. Meanwhile, families of detained dual nationals are tracking the hashtag for signs of a pending swap.
What’s next? Technical working groups will meet in Doha next week. The world is watching not for a handshake—which is unlikely—but for the quiet opening of bank channels and the release of the first prisoners.
