If you're selling a motorcycle, where you get your estimate from can significantly affect the price. Recently, I decided to part with an old bike and asked multiple buyers for quotes. Even for the same bike, there was a difference of over 100,000 yen depending on the dealer. For a mid-sized bike, prices ranged from around 350,000 yen to about 450,000 yen. That’s a big gap.

What left a personal impression on me was that large, well-known dealers tended to offer higher estimates overall. Dealers with many stores nationwide probably have a solid distribution network, which might be why their quotes are generally higher. Especially if you're selling a mid- or large-sized bike, it’s wise to consider big, reputable companies. On the other hand, smaller dealers may specialize in scooters or specific models, so choosing a dealer that specializes in the type of bike you’re selling is also a smart move.

When selling a motorcycle, the speed of cashing out is also an important factor. Some dealers pay on the spot, while others take a few days to transfer the money. If you're in a hurry, it’s best to choose a dealer that offers same-day payment. Not only the quote amount but also the speed of payment should be considered when choosing a dealer.

Some people might think it's a hassle to get multiple quotes, but taking the time to do so is really worth it. There are services that allow you to easily get multiple estimates online, and the more effort you put in, the higher the chance you'll sell at a price you’re satisfied with. First, it’s recommended to casually inquire about how much your bike could sell for.
