▶️ Global oil supplies are critically dependent on several key sea routes. In the first half of 2025, approximately 73 million barrels of oil passed through them daily – the majority of all maritime trade.
Major oil corridors:
▫️Strait of Malacca – 23.2 million barrels per day (29%)
The busiest route, connecting the Indian Ocean with the South China Sea, provides supplies to China, Japan, and South Korea.
▫️Strait of Hormuz — 20.9 million barrels per day (26%)
The key artery of the Persian Gulf: about 1/5 of the world's oil passes through it, 84% of which goes to Asia.
▫️Cape of Good Hope — 9.1 million barrels per day (11%)
An alternative long-distance route between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
▫️Suez Canal + SUMED — 4.9 million barrels per day (6%)
A link between the Red and Mediterranean Seas.
▫️Danish Straits — 4.9 million barrels per day (6%)
▫️Bab el-Mandeb — 4.2 million barrels per day (5%)
▫️Turkish Straits (Dardanelles) — 3.7 million barrels per day (4.6%)
▫️Panama Canal — 2.3 million barrels per day (2.9%)
