🇮🇷 #IranSetsClearCeasefireConditions: Tehran Officially Lists Demands to End War with US & Israel
On the 13th day of the ongoing conflict, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has formally outlined the Islamic Republic’s conditions for a ceasefire. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) following phone calls with the leaders of Russia and Pakistan, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran is committed to regional peace but laid out a non-negotiable path to end the hostilities .
Here are the 3 key conditions set by Tehran:
1️⃣ Recognition of Iran’s “Legitimate Rights”
Tehran demands that the United States and Israel formally recognize Iran’s national and legal rights. While the President did not explicitly define these rights, the term generally refers to Iran’s right to sovereignty, security, and its position in the region, which has been a point of contention leading up to the conflict .
2️⃣ Payment of War Reparations
Iran is insisting on financial compensation for the damages caused by the war. This includes the extensive destruction of infrastructure, economic losses, and the suffering of civilians. Reports indicate that Iran estimates the civilian death toll has surpassed 1,300, with over 17,000 injured since the conflict began on February 28 .
3️⃣ Firm International Guarantees Against Future Aggression
Perhaps the most critical demand for Tehran is the establishment of "firm international guarantees" to ensure that neither the US nor Israel will launch attacks on Iran again. This condition reflects Iran’s deep concern that a ceasefire without binding security assurances would only lead to a repeat of hostilities in the future. Iran is reportedly seeking a binding agreement, with communication being facilitated through European and Middle Eastern intermediaries .
The Diplomatic Context:
President Pezeshkian conveyed these terms directly to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, positioning them as key interlocutors in the diplomatic efforts to halt the fighting .
The Other Side of the Coin:
These conditions stand in stark contrast to the current stance of the Trump administration. Just days ago, US President Donald Trump stated that there would be no deal with Iran except "unconditional surrender." However, military and economic pressures are mounting globally as the conflict disrupts oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz .
As the world watches, the ball remains in the court of international diplomacy. Will these conditions form the basis of future negotiations, or is the region headed for a prolonged confrontation?
