Global Premiere Date Announced for Documentary "I Am History"

Streaming giant Netflix recently announced that the three-part documentary "I Am History" will have its global exclusive premiere in January 2027. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney, with Hans Zimmer composing the score, the documentary offers an in-depth look at the entire evolution of the crypto industry from its grassroots beginnings to mainstream acceptance through the personal perspective of Binance's former CEO Zhao Changpeng (CZ).

“This is not a biography, but a work that lets history speak for itself,” said the head of Netflix’s documentary department. “When CZ says ‘I am history,’ he has become one of the most important witnesses of this era.”

The series is divided into three episodes: "Genesis Block" recounts CZ’s early days from selling his Shanghai property to founding Binance; "Lunar Landing" focuses on key battles and decisions during Binance’s rise; "Judgment and Rebirth" reveals details of the Seattle court proceedings and includes a 137-day diary from prison. The entire film uses Unreal Engine 5 to recreate historical scenes, with keyframes minted as NFTs for permanent on-chain storage.

All proceeds from the documentary, after deducting production costs, will be donated in full to Giggle Academy, a public education platform initiated by CZ, to support digital literacy education for children in poverty worldwide.

"I Am History" will premiere exclusively on Netflix globally in January 2027.
