Bitcoin and Undervalued Cryptocurrencies Towards Institutional Adoption
According to Bernstein’s analysis, the crypto market is at a critical turning point. Undervalued cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin, are about to enter a new phase of institutional investor penetration thanks to the approval of spot ETFs. This transition is the main catalyst for the global expansion of digital markets in the coming years.
The Key Role of Bitcoin ETFs in Institutional Adoption
Bernstein analysts Gautam Chhugani and Maihka Sapra highlight that spot Bitcoin ETFs represent the next crucial step for institutional adoption. Although skeptics argue that the retail demand cycle has ended and that large investors are limited to basic cash and carry trades, market reality suggests otherwise.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs, first approved in the United States in January 2024, have significantly expanded access to the leading cryptocurrency. According to Bernstein, approvals by major exchanges and large private banking platforms will accelerate throughout 2025. This phenomenon is not just a continuation of previous flows but the beginning of a completely new market phase.
Base Trading: The Trojan Horse for Large Fund Entry
The seemingly conservative base trading strategy acts as an entry mechanism for more sophisticated institutional investors. This practice involves simultaneously buying the spot Bitcoin ETF and selling the futures contract, waiting for price convergence. While initially appearing as a defensive move, analysts note that large asset managers are gradually turning these temporary positions into genuine long net allocations as they become more familiar with ETF liquidity.
The expected acceleration of Bitcoin ETF flows in Q3 and Q4 2025 will be driven by major financial advisors approving ETFs for their portfolios and expanding allocation margins within existing mandates. This process will transform base trading from a tactical operation into a structural entry into the cryptocurrency world.
Ambitious Price Forecasts: The 2025-2033 Cycle
Bernstein projects highly optimistic price targets for Bitcoin in the coming years. The analysis anticipates Bitcoin reaching a cyclical high of around $200,000 by 2025, further multiplying to $500,000 by 2029, and ultimately reaching $1 million by 2033.
These projections are based on the thesis that undervalued cryptocurrencies will benefit from large-scale institutional adoption. The price trajectory reflects the assumption that institutional inflows will continue to accelerate, while ETF market liquidity improves, reducing the risk premiums associated with holding cryptocurrencies.
Major Titles in Crypto Focus: Bernstein’s Valuations
In addition to Bitcoin price forecasts, Bernstein has assigned “outperform” ratings to several crypto-related stocks. Among Bitcoin miners, the broker identifies Riot Platforms (RIOT) and CleanSpark (CLSK) as growth opportunities, while maintaining a positive outlook on software players like MicroStrategy (MSTR), known for its significant Bitcoin reserves. The trading platform Robinhood (HOOD) also receives a favorable rating due to its exposure to growing ETF flows.
This approach reflects the belief that not only Bitcoin but the entire crypto activity ecosystem remains undervalued by traditional markets and thus holds substantial upside potential.
Current Market Status
As of now, Bitcoin is trading around $68,600, demonstrating attempts by the market to consolidate higher price levels. Meanwhile, altcoins such as Ether, Solana, Cardano, and Dogecoin have outperformed Bitcoin, signaling renewed risk appetite and a rotation toward assets with more volatile price dynamics.
Despite short-term rebounds, analysts emphasize that fragile global macroeconomic conditions, stagnant stablecoin supply, and the risk of cascading liquidations below $60,000 could complicate the medium-term outlook. However, Bernstein’s strategic outlook remains constructive, based on the conviction that undervalued cryptocurrencies present a systemic opportunity for those willing to wait for institutional adoption to unfold.
