Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has detailed a technical roadmap aimed at improving transaction speed on the Ethereum network and enhancing security against quantum computing threats. The plan includes combining major consensus mechanism upgrades with hash-based cryptographic signature schemes for the post-quantum era. Buterin pointed out that achieving quantum resistance in the core block production process may occur before finality, allowing the blockchain to continue operating even if breakthroughs in quantum computing compromise finality guarantees. He previously estimated that the probability of such quantum computers emerging before 2030 is about 20%.
