Turkey states that it is willing to play a mediating role between the United States and Iran.
On February 3rd, local time, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that Turkey is willing to play a mediating and facilitative role between Iran and the United States, emphasizing “opposition to any actions that push the region toward war, and support for all efforts conducive to peace.” He advocates for de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy, saying Turkey is ready to assume a mediating role between the US and Iran. According to earlier reports, U.S. Special Envoy for Iran Robert Malley and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian are expected to meet in Istanbul, Turkey, on February 6 to discuss a “possible nuclear agreement.” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani stated on the 3rd, “Negotiation plans have been made, and meetings are expected to take place in the coming days. Currently, consultations are underway to determine the venue, and once confirmed, it will be announced immediately.” Kanaani added that Turkey, Oman, and some other regional countries have expressed willingness to host the talks.
