Sabir Sami Assumes KFC Division CEO Role, Driving Global Brand Strategy Forward
Yum! Brands unveiled the elevation of Sabir Sami, 54, to the position of KFC Division Chief Executive Officer, a move set to take effect January 1, 2022. Reporting directly to Yum! Brands’ Chief Executive Officer David Gibbs, Sabir Sami will guide the strategic direction and operational performance of one of the world’s most recognizable fast-food brands. This appointment marks a significant leadership transition within the restaurant conglomerate’s portfolio.
A Proven Leader with Extensive International Experience
Sabir Sami brings more than a decade of institutional knowledge to this elevated role, having spent 12 years advancing through Yum! Brands’ ranks. Most recently, he served as KFC Division Chief Operating Officer alongside his responsibilities as Managing Director of KFC Asia, positioning him with deep insight into both operational excellence and international market dynamics. His career trajectory before joining Yum! reflects considerable leadership acumen, having held executive positions at industry titans including Procter & Gamble, the Coca-Cola Company, and Reckitt Benckiser. This diverse background equips Sabir Sami with the cross-industry perspective necessary to navigate competitive challenges in the global quick-service restaurant sector.
Seamless Handover and Organizational Restructuring
Sabir Sami assumes responsibility from Tony Lowings, who is transitioning from his CEO role at the end of 2021 following more than 27 years of tenure with both Yum! Brands and KFC. Lowings will remain engaged through the first quarter of 2022 to facilitate a smooth changeover and support critical transition initiatives. Simultaneously, the company is elevating Dyke Shipp, 55, to the position of KFC Division President, where he will report to Sabir Sami effective January 1, 2022. Shipp, who currently holds the dual titles of Chief Development Officer and Chief People Officer, brings over three decades of experience within the organization, ensuring continuity in operational and human capital strategies.
With these leadership appointments, Yum! Brands reinforces its commitment to maintaining KFC’s competitive edge in the global marketplace while leveraging the international expertise and strategic vision that Sabir Sami brings to the helm of the iconic brand.
