Tesla plans to increase investment in AI hardware and software and energy sectors in the Chinese market.

Tesla Vice President Tao Lin recently stated at a media briefing in Beijing that by 2026, Tesla plans to expand its investment in AI hardware and software and energy fields in China. Tesla has already established a local training center in China for localized tuning of its intelligent assisted driving.

Tao Lin said that in the global market, Tesla’s capital expenditure is expected to exceed $20 billion in 2026, focusing on AI computing power, robotic factories, mass production of autonomous vehicles Cybercab, energy storage and manufacturing, charging networks, and battery factories.

“With the continuous increase in demand for computing centers driven by global AI development, new energy storage systems will become an important part of grid stability and power quality improvement,” Tao Lin said. The launch and operation of Tesla’s Shanghai energy storage superfactory will provide more competitive energy storage battery Megapack products for China, Asia-Pacific, and Europe.

Regarding Tesla’s strategic transformation, Tao Lin said that Tesla is no longer just an electric vehicle company but has transformed into a technology enterprise centered on AI, robotics, and energy. “Vehicles are still an extremely important AI platform, but our vision has expanded to humanoid robots and global energy networks. This transformation is based on the judgment that the future world will be electric-driven, and AI will manage this hardware.”

It is worth mentioning that, according to the latest news, Tesla is accelerating solar manufacturing to achieve Elon Musk’s goal of an annual production of 100 gigawatts of solar cells. Last month, Musk stated during Tesla’s earnings call, “The opportunity in solar has been underestimated.”

According to foreign media reports, Tesla is evaluating multiple options to expand photovoltaic capacity, including increasing the capacity of the Buffalo factory in New York to 10 gigawatts, and building additional factories in New York, Arizona, or Idaho.
