Here’s Why GM Uses Allison-Branded Badges For Its Own Transmission
General Motors has clarified its continued use of Allison branding for the 10-speed automatic transmission in its heavy-duty pickups, the Chevy Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD. While the transmission (internally known as 10L1000) is built in-house by GM, Allison played a crucial role in its development by supporting validation testing, justifying the branding beyond mere marketing. This distinguishes it from GM’s medium-duty trucks, which use “genuine” Allison-built transmissions.
