Spanish train collision prompts official attention; Sánchez promises a thorough investigation
Two high-speed trains collided head-on in southern Spain, resulting in at least 39 fatalities. The sudden tragedy immediately drew high-level government attention. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez responded promptly, stating that an in-depth investigation into the accident would be carried out and vowing to uncover the truth for the nation.
Prime Minister Inspects Scene, Emphasizes Pursuit of Truth
After the accident, Sánchez personally visited the site to inspect the disaster. He delivered a speech on-site, emphasizing the urgency of the investigation: “Spanish society is asking what happened, how such a tragedy could occur, and why all this might have happened.” The Prime Minister stressed that the government would determine the facts with the utmost determination to give an explanation to the victims’ families and the entire nation. Due to the severity of the incident, Sánchez decided to cancel his planned trip to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to demonstrate the importance placed on this disaster.
National Initiates Full Mourning and Emergency Measures
To honor the victims and show care for the survivors, Spain has decided to initiate a three-day nationwide mourning starting from midnight after the accident. This measure reflects the government’s high regard for the disaster and deep condolences for those affected.
Casualty Figures Are Shocking
According to Juanma Moreno, President of the Andalusian Autonomous Community, the train collision resulted in at least 170 injuries, with 15 in serious condition requiring further medical treatment. Coupled with the at least 39 fatalities, this is undoubtedly a severe humanitarian disaster. Sánchez’s series of actions demonstrate that the government will investigate the cause of the accident with the strongest resolve to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
