Wu said that the Ethereum Name Service announced that ENSv2 will only be deployed on Ethereum L1 and will cease development of the self-developed L2 "Namechain." The team stated that as Ethereum L1 scaling and registration costs have significantly improved, the original plan to build an independent L2 is no longer justified. The halt in Namechain development will not affect the progress of ENSv2 features, and related contracts, ENS App, and ENS Explorer have entered the public alpha stage. The ENS team also pointed out that staying on L1 allows leveraging Ethereum's native security and decentralization features, while the technical experience gained from Namechain will be used to enhance ENS's interoperability support for various L2s.
