Trump is seeking sovereignty over the American military base in Greenland
The issue of sovereignty over Arctic territories is becoming a new point of tension in international relations. On January 25, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States is engaged in active negotiations and hopes to gain control over American military facilities on Greenland.
What sovereignty are the US interested in
According to BlockBeats, the American administration does not seek to take over the entire territory of Greenland but focuses on sovereignty over strategic military infrastructure. Specifically, this concerns the Pituffik space base, which is critically important for the U.S. missile defense system and space operations in the Arctic. Trump expressed confidence that negotiations are progressing successfully and that the US will achieve its goals. According to him, the sovereignty issue is at a stage of constructive dialogue.
Greenland’s categorical refusal
However, the Danish autonomous government strongly opposes these plans. Official representatives of Greenland stated that questions of national sovereignty are a principled position that is not subject to negotiation. For them, this is an insurmountable red line. Such a firm response clearly demonstrates that reaching an agreement will require significant political concessions from one of the parties.
