According to the latest on-chain data, the fee distribution in the Ethereum Layer 2 ecosystem exhibits a "Matthew Effect." On January 14th, only 3 Ethereum L2 chains saw their single-day fee income surpass the $5,000 mark. Among them, Base performed the best, with a daily revenue of approximately $147,000, directly overshadowing other competitors. Arbitrum followed closely, earning about $39,000 that day. Starknet ranked third with around $9,000.

What is even more noteworthy is Base's market share—its fee income has approached nearly 70% of the total Ethereum L2 revenue. What does this mean? It indicates that most users' trading activities are concentrating on Base, while the ecosystem activity of other L2 chains remains relatively subdued. This imbalance reflects that, in the L2 race, the siphoning effect of leading players has already become apparent.

Is Base really that aggressive in siphoning? 70% directly crushing others, it feels like Arbitrum is almost being marginalized.

Base is so powerful... $147,000 in daily transaction fees, directly outcompeting other L2s This is the winner-takes-all scenario. 70% of the revenue is taken by Base, while other chain players are still in a daze Arbitrum's $39,000 isn't bad, but compared to Base, it's just a side runner... The Matthew Effect is used perfectly here
