In the Sui ecosystem, Walrus, a storage protocol, has recently attracted a lot of attention. It uses Red Stuff's 2D erasure coding technology to handle data redundancy issues—achieving a high security level with only 4.5x replication, which is a significant improvement over traditional solutions. Even more interesting is that the bandwidth cost for data recovery is directly cut by 90%, fundamentally changing the storage cost structure from an economic benefit perspective.
The protocol's programmable storage design is even more noteworthy. NFT metadata, AI training datasets, and other Blob data can be stored directly as Sui objects, then controlled through Move smart contracts for ownership transfer and permission management. This means NFTs are no longer just a combination of on-chain addresses and centralized servers but truly become interactive on-chain assets. For RWA on-chain, this also provides a more standardized and efficient storage foundation.
On the ecosystem side, the $WAL token not only supports storage payments and node staking but also continuously reduces circulating supply through a dual-burn mechanism. Backed by over $800 million in on-chain assets, the ecosystem is quite substantial. From developer API usability to enterprise-level compliance tools, decentralized storage is shifting from an optional choice to a necessary one.
