The SparkKitty virus disguises itself as an encryption application to steal Wallet mnemonic phrases and has infiltrated iOS and Android platforms.
On June 24, cybersecurity companies discovered a new malicious virus called SparkKitty, which infects apps on iOS and Android devices and steals all the pictures in users’ photo albums, with the intention of finding screenshots of crypto wallet mnemonic phrases. According to analysts, the malicious apps are mainly cryptocurrency-themed, including a cryptocurrency information tracking app called “coincoin” on the App Store, and SOEX, a messaging app with a “cryptocurrency trading feature” that has been downloaded more than 10,000 times on Google Play. Researchers believe that SparkKitty shares similar characteristics to SparkCat, the malicious virus discovered in January of this year. The malicious virus campaign will start at least early 2024 and will primarily target users in Southeast Asia and China, but is technically capable of attacking users in any region. The app has been removed from the app store.
