One of the most iconic traditions in the crypto world is set to make a comeback, with Charlie Shrem, an early Bitcoin developer and entrepreneur, announcing plans to relaunch the Bitcoin faucet, a free Bitcoin-giving site inspired by the original version created by Gavin Andresen in 2010. Quoting a CoinDesk report on Monday (5/5/2025), the original Bitcoin Faucet once gave away 5 BTC for free to anyone who successfully completed a simple CAPTCHA challenge. At the time, 5 BTC was not even worth a US dollar. Now, that prize is equivalent to almost US$500,000 per person, based on the current Bitcoin price.
