According to the latest news, U.S. President Donald Trump has discussed the possibility of firing Jerome Powell in his statement with SEC Chairman Paul Atkins.
Trump stated that he would not fire Powell and never had any intention of firing the Fed Chairman.
When asked to clarify in the Oval Office that he did not want Powell to be fired, Trump replied: “No way,” adding: “I never wanted that.”
These comments reflect Trump’s strong shift, who has recently been more hardline in his criticism of Powell and has not ruled out the unprecedented possibility of firing her.
Trump, who pressured the Fed chairman to lower interest rates in hopes of stimulating economic growth, spoke about Powell last week, “If I want him out of there, he will leave very quickly.”
White House economic advisor Kevin Hassett said on Friday that Trump and his aides are actively considering the possibility of firing Powell.
