Ministry of Emergency Management: In coordination with relevant departments, organize whole-chain governance of fireworks and firecrackers under the “one matter” approach

On the afternoon of February 28, the Ministry of Emergency Management held a video dispatch meeting on safety prevention and control work around the Lantern Festival and before and after the National Two Sessions. The meeting pointed out that, at present, various enterprises are accelerating resumption of work and production, passenger traffic during the spring festival travel rush on the return journey is still relatively large, and disaster risk levels such as forest fires and earthquake and geological hazards are high. In particular, during the Lantern Festival, there will be a peak in the setting off of fireworks and firecrackers, making the safety situation severe and complex. All regions must adhere to a bottom-line mindset, keep their alertness levels high, and take targeted measures to control various risks. Efforts must be strengthened to manage fireworks and firecrackers across the entire chain: in the operating phase, a comprehensive inspection must be carried out for major risk hazards such as “residences above and shops below”; in the firing phase, forces should be organized to conduct joint inspections and law enforcement patrols in key unit areas; and in the storage phase, targeted prevention, as well as scientific and safe handling, must be ensured. The Ministry of Emergency Management will work together with relevant departments to organize whole-chain governance of fireworks and firecrackers under the “one matter” approach, further refining and implementing safety regulatory measures for each stage of “production, transportation, storage, sales, and firing.” (CCTV News)
