Qingming Holiday: The average daily sales of key retail and catering enterprises nationwide increased by 2.4% year-on-year

Everyday Economic News AI Express, the reporter learned from the Ministry of Commerce that during the Qingming holiday, many regions implemented continuous spring break arrangements, and consumption demand was effectively released, injecting vitality into the spring consumption market.

According to data from the Ministry of Commerce, during the Qingming holiday, the daily average sales revenue of the country’s key retail and catering enterprises increased by 2.4% year over year. For the 78 pedestrian streets (shopping districts) monitored by the Ministry of Commerce, passenger traffic and sales revenue increased by 6.0% and 6.7%, respectively.

In terms of goods consumption, as of April 5, 2026 vehicle trade-in for new purchases received a total of 1.526 million subsidy applications, driving new car sales revenue of 246.8 billion yuan. For household appliance trade-ins, as well as sales of digital and smart new-purchase products, 62.845 million units were sold, driving sales revenue of 215.97 billion yuan. Business data from the Ministry shows that sales revenue for key platforms’ smart glasses and smart watches and wristbands increased by 3.2 times and 12.3%, respectively.

In terms of services consumption, data show that during the Qingming holiday, sales revenue at catering enterprises monitored by the Ministry of Commerce grew by 3.9%. At key platforms, hotel accommodation consumption grew by 2.6%; the number of trips across cities increased by 15.1% year over year; theme park consumption increased by 11.7% year over year; orders for parent-child research-and-learning doubled year over year; and the number of car-rental orders rose by about 40%.
