The State Administration for Market Regulation organized special spot checks on Lantern Festival and Tangyuan, and the results show that the safety conditions are good.
As the Lantern Festival approaches, seasonal foods such as lantern dumplings (yuanxiao) and sweet rice dumplings (tangyuan) are seeing a sales peak. To effectively ensure food safety during the holiday period and create a safe and reassuring festive consumer environment, recently, the State Administration for Market Regulation organized special sampling inspections across the country. The inspection results show that the overall quality and safety condition of lantern dumplings and sweet rice dumplings is good. This special sampling inspection covered 31 provinces (autonomous regions/municipalities) nationwide. In key business premises such as supermarkets, pastry shops, small food stores, wholesale markets, and convenience stores, a total of 2,512 batches of lantern dumplings and sweet rice dumplings were randomly sampled, covering brands with a wide circulation and high market sales volumes such as Si Mian, Wan Zai Port, and Sanquan. The inspection items closely focused on quality and safety indicators that the public cares about, including sweeteners (such as saccharin sodium and cyclamate), color additives (such as tartrazine, sunset yellow, amaranth, and brilliant blue), metallic elements (such as lead), and peroxide value. After laboratory testing, no unqualified products were found. Market regulation authorities will continue to strengthen supervision and oversight of seasonal food safety, further implement the main responsibilities of food producers and operators, and safeguard the safety of the public’s “food on the tip of the tongue.” (State Administration for Market Regulation)
