Ordinary heroes top the trending searches, but only by implementing rewards can good people be truly rewarded and their good deeds no longer just a wish.
In early November, a wave of warm and powerful social positive energy swept across the internet.
On November 4, the topic “Extraordinary Touches in Ordinary Positions” topped the trending list on social media, with over 12 million views; the next day, the topic “Salute to the Urban Heroes” once again made it to the hot search, with over 25 million views. Under these topics, numerous heartwarming moments of ordinary workers continuously dominated the screen, as they interpreted “greatness in the ordinary” through their actions, garnering millions of likes and resonance from netizens.
Among these moments, many are worth remembering. Jiangsu nurse Gao Yunxian heard cries for help at a scenic spot and rushed forward without hesitation, using three cycles of CPR to pull a choking child back from the brink of death; Chongqing bus driver Master Jin bent down to carry an elderly person with mobility difficulties amid the heavy traffic in the rain; Henan Kaifeng delivery worker Cui Yulong climbed up a third-floor anti-theft net with his bare hands to successfully rescue a trapped child; and a Meituan rider delivering medicine late at night patiently waited outside for over 20 minutes, worried about the user’s safety, and returned to the pharmacy to check the medication’s efficacy, touching tens of thousands of netizens…
In the context of the new era, the definition of “hero” is being reshaped; it is no longer an unreachable symbol but rather ordinary workers such as delivery riders, bus drivers, and community nurses, who are prevalent in the streets and easily accessible. The millions of views and likes on social networks are a heartfelt tribute from the public to the ordinary heroes around them, and a genuine reflection of society’s most real and urgent desire for “kindness.” It proclaims to us: in this era, the most powerful positive energy comes from those ordinary people “micro-light” who stick to their posts.
However, in the face of these touching deeds, we cannot stop at mere emotions, likes, and shares. To pay tribute to ordinary heroes, we must not only be moved in our hearts but also take action.
Every viral moment online surges like a tide, but the tide will eventually recede. If good deeds only remain at verbal praise and short-lived popularity, how will those selfless workers be remembered? This is precisely the deepest call of public opinion over the years: how do we ensure that “good people are rewarded”?
The key to sustaining the “micro-light” of ordinary people lies in the joint construction of a comprehensive reward mechanism by the government, society, and enterprises, allowing good deeds to be seen and respected, making “good people rewarded” a reality, thereby highlighting the warmth of society and the responsibility of enterprises.
Whether it’s the government’s honors such as “China Good Person” or “Common People’s Lei Feng,” or corporate rewards and bonuses for good deeds. This dual incentive of material and spirit is the most direct recognition and encouragement of good deeds, turning “good people rewarded” from a beautiful wish into reality, ensuring that kindness continues for a long time.
For example, Meituan held a commendation meeting for pioneer riders on November 6. Meituan announced the upgrade of two long-term initiatives: the “Rider Good Deeds Reward Program” and the “Rider Acts of Heroism Reward Program,” specifically rewarding “pioneer riders” who bravely help others and have a sense of social responsibility, with the highest commendation amount reaching 100,000 yuan, and additional incentives provided if significant deeds are officially recognized.

On that day, 13 “pioneer riders” from across the country, recognized for their acts of heroism and good deeds, were invited to the event. Among them was rider Yao Xinlong, who returned late at night to check the efficacy of the medicine due to concerns for the customer’s safety, rider Ru Xinge, who helped the store owner chase a thief, and rider Meng Shixiang, who bravely intervened to stop malicious vehicle interference.
These Meituan riders are the most ordinary workers in the city, moving through streets and alleys, serving thousands of households. However, they do not indulge in the ordinary; instead, they invest their youthful and vigorous hearts and abundant moral sense into helping others. Although these good deeds may not be breathtaking, their warmth and dedication profoundly touch and warm the entire society in the most genuine way.
To reward these brave individuals, we should not stop at cash rewards. We should provide comprehensive guarantees, empowering riders with the “confidence” to act in critical moments through institutional support.
Currently, Meituan has partnered with professional emergency rescue, medical aid, and vocational education institutions to offer long-term safety training for riders nationwide, helping them acquire professional skills. In special situations, rider friends can not only save themselves but also help others more professionally within their abilities.
Additionally, starting November 1, Meituan’s retirement insurance subsidy officially covers the entire country, and the “Meituan Rider Major Illness Care Plan” has also been implemented for all Meituan riders and their parents, spouses, and minor children. Meituan hopes to make the work of riders more relaxed, their income more stable, and their lives better guaranteed, thus becoming better helpers for community residents.
The immense scale of platform enterprises determines that their acts of reward themselves carry strong appeal. Meituan’s actions will undoubtedly inspire more practitioners to actively fulfill their social responsibilities, solidifying the foundation of a better society.
It should be noted that the vast number of delivery riders are not just meal deliverers or couriers; they are also safety personnel, information providers, and emergency rescuers moving through the urban capillaries. Their electric bikes are “mobile Lei Feng stations,” and their delivery boxes may contain first aid kits; their good deeds often fill the blind spots in urban public services and grassroots governance in the first instance.
“Ordinary people’s micro-light can illuminate the galaxy,” and those moments that touch society are the warmest background of the city. However, maintaining and extending this warmth requires the collective effort of the whole society. The government needs to continue improving relevant laws and regulations to ensure that the rights and interests of those who act heroically are not harmed; media and the public should continue to pay attention and give likes, creating a positive public opinion atmosphere. Platform enterprises, represented by Meituan, should view the reward mechanism as part of their long-term strategy, continuously deepening the institutional guarantees for good deeds.
Only by making the reward mechanism more refined, allowing “good deeds” to be tangible and “warmth” to have a destination, can we ensure that every worker in ordinary positions, while working with peace of mind, has the courage and confidence to embrace kindness. This is the most profound and lasting tribute to “extraordinary touches in ordinary positions” in our era.
