Golden Finance reports that Google is about to finalize an agreement to provide funding support for a large project in Texas for data center developer Nexus Data Centers. The project is valued at more than $5 billion and, once built, will be leased to Anthropic for use. The construction loan is expected to be finalized soon.
The project covers about 2,800 acres and is expected to deliver a capacity of about 500 megawatts as early as the end of 2026, with a further large-scale expansion afterward. The site is located near major natural gas pipelines. Nexus plans to power the facility directly through its own gas turbines, rather than relying on the public power grid, in order to avoid delays associated with grid interconnection queues and to reduce costs during peak electricity demand hours.
Google currently provides Anthropic with its custom TPU chips for large-model training via Google Cloud, and the two sides already have deep cloud computing collaboration. This financing of infrastructure for data centers rented by Anthropic is a further extension of that partnership.
