Officials in Iraq’s energy sector said on the 25th that, because the Strait of Hormuz has fallen into a de facto blockade, Iraq is unable to export crude oil through the strait. With storage space running out, it has been forced to cut oil production, and output at the country’s main oilfields in the south has plunged by 80%. Reuters, citing three officials from Iraq’s energy sector, reported that production at the country’s main southern oilfields has fallen by about 80%, to roughly 800,000 barrels per day. Before the United States and Israel launched strikes against Iran, the output from these fields was about 4.3 million barrels per day. Earlier this month, industry sources disclosed that production at these fields had already dropped by about 70%, to roughly 1.3 million barrels per day. (Xinhua)
