The world's largest diameter underwater shield tunnel completed with double-layer breakthrough

On March 17, with the last cast-in-place roadway slab completed, the upper roadway slabs of the Huanghe Tunnel on Huanggang Road in Jinan, built by China Railway 14th Bureau Group, were fully finished, marking the successful double-layer breakthrough of the world’s largest-diameter underwater shield tunnel. It is understood that the Huanghe Tunnel on Huanggang Road in Jinan has a total length of about 5.75 kilometers, of which the shield-tunneling section is about 3.3 kilometers. It is constructed using the “Shanhe No. 1” shield machine with an excavation diameter of 17.5 meters. The tunnel has a single tunnel with a two-deck (two-layer) structure, with six lanes in total across the upper and lower decks. The design speed is 60 kilometers per hour, enabling traffic functions for the two tunnel bores. (Xinhua News Agency)
