Ethereum is advancing its post-quantum security roadmap, with the Ethereum Foundation launching a dedicated portal and planning a critical upgrade in 2029. Researcher Will Cockburn emphasized the threat that quantum computers, expected to emerge around 2032, pose to all proof-of-stake networks. The core challenge lies in replacing current compact signatures with larger hash-based signatures without undermining decentralization. The proposed solution combines LeanSig signatures with Lean Multisig, an aggregation system based on STARK algorithm, to compress data. Cockburn stated that this work, involving over 1500 contributors, aims to establish a de facto industry standard.
