In the first two months of this year, Beijing's newly constructed residential sales area increased by 10.9%

Beijing's economic data for January-February shows that the sales area of newly built residential properties increased by 10.9%, reaching 664,000 square meters, mainly driven by the signing of affordable housing sales. The sales area of newly built commercial housing was 934,000 square meters, down 1.3% year-on-year, with the decline narrowing. The area of new construction starts was 1,049,000 square meters, down 18.4% year-on-year.

Beijing Daily News (Reporter Jiang Huizi) — On March 17, Beijing released the economic operation report for January and February. The city’s newly built residential sales area reached 664,000 square meters, an increase of 10.9%, mainly driven by concentrated sales of affordable housing.

From January to February, the sales area of new commercial housing in Beijing was 934,000 square meters, a decrease of 1.3%, narrowing the decline by 5.6 percentage points compared to last year’s full-year decline of 6.9%.

Analyzing the reasons, the increase in residential sales area is the main driving factor. In the first two months of this year, Beijing’s new residential sales area was 664,000 square meters, up 10.9%, mainly due to concentrated sales of affordable housing. Outside of residential properties, office building sales were 18,000 square meters, down 21.9%; commercial business premises sales were 111,000 square meters, down 11.7%.

In terms of construction, from January to February, the new construction area of buildings in Beijing was 1.049 million square meters, a decrease of 18.4% year-on-year. Among them, the new residential construction area was 796,000 square meters, down 33.1%.
