The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a suspected case of botulinum toxin poisoning after receiving a report of a person who received a botulinum toxin injection in Seoul, South Korea. The case involves a 25-year-old female patient.

According to information provided by the patient, she received a cosmetic injection claiming to contain botulinum toxin at a beauty clinic in Seoul on February 27. It has not been confirmed whether the personnel responsible for the injection were qualified. She returned to Hong Kong and began experiencing difficulty swallowing on March 9. Due to persistent symptoms, she sought medical attention at Queen Elizabeth Hospital yesterday and is currently hospitalized. Her condition is stable. Clinical diagnosis suspects her condition resulted from botulinum toxin poisoning due to the injection.

The Centre has reported the case to the South Korean health authorities. An epidemiological investigation is ongoing.
