Iran Situation | Larijani Releases Handwritten Eulogy After Israeli Airstrike
Multiple Israeli media outlets report that the Israeli military launched an airstrike targeting Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, on Monday evening. It is currently unclear whether Larijani was killed or injured in the attack.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office stated today on social media that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the “elimination” of senior Iranian government officials; the post included a photo of him on a call with military personnel. Israeli Defense Minister Gantz also announced that Larijani was killed in the Israeli military strike. Iran has not yet responded to this.
However, according to Mehr News Agency in Iran, Larijani wrote a handwritten condolence message for fallen Iranian Navy soldiers.
Larijani was originally a close aide to the late Supreme Leader Khamenei. Since Khamenei’s passing, he has been regarded as one of Iran’s leading figures. He previously issued an open letter to the Islamic world, calling for support for Iran against the United States and Israel.
