Multiple Israeli media reports state that the Israeli military launched airstrikes targeting National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani on Monday night. It is currently unclear whether Larijani was killed or injured in the attack. The reports cite Israeli military assessments, believing that Larijani was successfully assassinated. Iran has not yet commented on this.

Early Tuesday morning, the Israeli military issued a statement saying they have begun large-scale strikes on infrastructure in Tehran, Iran’s capital. Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stated that the military achieved significant preventive results last night, which could impact the course of the conflict and Israeli military operations.

Larijani was formerly a close aide to the late Supreme Leader Khamenei. Since Khamenei’s death, he has been regarded as one of the leaders of the Iranian regime. He previously published an open letter to the Islamic State, calling for support for Iran against the United States and Israel.
