East has potholed roads, west has blocking vehicles! When will the residential community clear out a safe and unobstructed path?
“After exiting the southwest gate of the community, the sidewalks on both sides of the road are occupied, leaving pedestrians with nowhere to walk.” Outside the southwest gate of Ziyouji Community on Xizhao Temple Middle Street in Dongcheng District, the sidewalks on both sides of the road are not unobstructed, severely affecting residents’ safety when traveling.
Outside the southwest gate of Ziyouji Community, one side is a parking lot, and the other side is occupied by vehicles.
“Our community is right next to the Yellow River Jidu Hotel on the south side. When we go out through the southwest gate, the sidewalk on the east side is blocked by columns, which are inside the hotel’s parking lot; on the west side, the sidewalk is full of motor vehicles. Residents have no way to walk out of the community, sometimes they can only walk onto the road, which is too dangerous,” said resident Mr. Zhang. The issue of sidewalk occupation outside the gate has existed for many years, causing great inconvenience to residents. They have repeatedly reported it to relevant departments, but the problem has never been fully resolved.
According to the interviewee, due to vehicles occupying the road, elderly residents can only walk on the street.
Recently, a reporter visited outside the southwest gate of Ziyouji Community. On the east side of the sidewalk outside the gate, a row of columns was installed right next to the curb, with the hotel’s parking lot inside the columns. Although there is a narrow pedestrian passage between the columns and parking spaces, the road is full of potholes. The reporter saw that many residents returning from shopping with small carts found the surface difficult to walk on and chose to walk directly on the road; when approaching the community entrance, they had to carefully move their carts through the gaps in the columns onto the uneven pavement, jostling as they pushed the carts into the community.
Outside the southwest gate of Ziyouji Community, one side is a parking lot, and the other side is occupied by vehicles.
The sidewalk on the west side outside the gate is adjacent to the railway protective net, and the surface is noticeably more chaotic. Besides the express delivery trucks and motor vehicles temporarily parked on the roadside, there are also more than ten motor vehicles parked on the sidewalk, blocking the road in a disorderly manner. Among the motor vehicles, a few shared bikes are parked, and in the corner, discarded columns and broken traffic cones are piled up.
On the ground in the west area, several “T” or right-angle markings are painted.
From the west side of Guangming West Street to outside the community gate, both sides of the road are in this condition. A resident told the reporter that this situation has existed for many years, and “pedestrians don’t know how to walk properly.” “Whether on the east side or the west side, everyone is hoping to clear a safe and smooth path,” Mr. Zhang said helplessly.
The pavement is severely damaged.
The sidewalk at the community entrance is full of potholes.
On the columns outside the community gate, the reporter saw two old notices: one issued last November, stating that this area would undergo upgrade and renovation, and asking vehicle owners to move their cars before November 14; another issued on December 30 last year by Beijing Guoyu Property Management Co., Ltd., stating that from January 1 this year, parking management and fee collection would be implemented from the west side of Guangming West Street to outside the community gate. However, the reporter did not see any parking management facilities on site.

According to the Longtan Street Law Enforcement Team, after multiple requests from residents, the community has verified the situation with relevant departments and will soon clear the vehicles on the west sidewalk, adjust the columns on the east sidewalk based on public opinion, and repair the potholes; at the same time, road markings will be painted at the community entrance to indicate pedestrian crossings. In the future, the community plans to further develop the west side area outside the community gate into flower beds and walkways to better ensure residents’ safe travel.
Once leaving the southwest gate of the community, you enter the area within the columns.
