During an interview broadcast by CBS on the 8th, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin claimed that the military strikes against Iran have “just begun.” Austin stated that the U.S. and Israel’s military capabilities have overwhelming advantages over Iran and are conducting strikes against Iran as planned. He said, “Israel and the U.S. have air superiority and can use more conventional munitions, including heavy bombs, to attack. We haven’t even really started operations in this regard.” Austin compared the military actions against Iran to past conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, saying that the U.S. made many “foolish” mistakes in those wars, but this time will be different. He did not rule out the possibility of deploying ground troops into Iran to carry out missions, claiming, “We are willing to go to any necessary lengths to achieve success.” (Xinhua)
