On March 11, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun hosted a routine press conference. A CCTV journalist asked whether the spokesperson could further introduce China’s position and efforts to promote de-escalation of the situation, as Foreign Minister Wang Yi has recently spoken with the foreign ministers of Kuwait, Bahrain, Pakistan, and Qatar over the past two days to exchange views on the Iran situation. Meanwhile, regional tensions continue to escalate, and the risk of spillover of the conflict increases. How does China view the next development of the situation?

In response, Guo Jiakun stated that recently, Foreign Minister Wang Yi has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts regarding the Iran situation, once again communicating with foreign ministers of regional countries, dedicated to promoting peace, stopping the war, and cooling down the tensions.

Guo Jiakun pointed out that from the first day of the outbreak of hostilities, China has clearly called for a ceasefire and a return to dialogue and negotiations, insisting on a political solution. The Chinese government’s special envoy for Middle East issues is currently traveling within the region. As a permanent member of the UN Security Council and a sincere friend of Middle Eastern countries, China’s pursuit of peace will not stop, and its voice defending fairness and justice will continue. China will also strengthen communication with all relevant parties, including those involved in the conflict, to play a constructive role in easing tensions and restoring peace.
