On March 11, according to Xinhua News Agency, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Office announced that a cargo ship was hit by an unidentified projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, causing the vessel to catch fire.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Office issued a statement saying the incident occurred 11 nautical miles north of Oman (about 20 kilometers). The ship has requested assistance, and the crew is evacuating. The extent of damage to the ship and any casualties are not yet known.

The Strait of Hormuz, connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is a strategic global chokepoint. Following a military strike by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28, the passage through this strait has attracted international attention.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Office is a maritime security coordination center supported by the UK Navy. Its main responsibilities include reporting on maritime conditions in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, and Persian Gulf to support commercial vessels and assist in ensuring the safety of seafarers.
