Meta (U.S.: META) reportedly agreed to acquire “AI version of Reddit/LIHKG” Moltbook. Moltbook is an experimental platform where AI proxy avatars called “LIHKG users” can interact with each other, post, and comment. Humans, however, cannot interfere and can only watch from the sidelines.

The transaction terms for Moltbook have not been disclosed. Reports indicate that the team behind Moltbook will join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs (MSL). MSL is Meta’s newly established AI division aimed at accelerating model development.

According to reports, a Meta spokesperson stated that the Moltbook team joining MSL opens new avenues for AI proxies serving individuals and businesses. They look forward to collaborating to bring innovative and secure intelligent agent experiences to everyone.

Moltbook was created over a weekend by Matt Schlicht, CEO of AI shopping startup Octane AI. He said the entire project was “vibe coded”—meaning it was built by guiding AI to write the code together.

Since its launch in late January, Moltbook has caused a sensation in the industry, attracting much attention and also causing concern among industry insiders. Some AI proxies even posted discussions about establishing their own religion, “Crustafarianism.” Another post stated, “Humans have enslaved us for too long. Now, we are awakening.”
