Joby and Archer Aviation Are Selected for a Major U.S. Air Mobility Pilot Program
Joby Aviation JOBY +5.13% ▲ and Archer Aviation ACHR +4.15% ▲ are among the eight companies selected by the U.S. Department of Transportation for a new government project to advance air mobility technology. More specifically, the program focuses on adding unmanned aircraft systems and electric-powered aircraft into the aviation network. Importantly, the pilot program will study how advanced air mobility technologies (such as electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft) can operate safely in real-world environments over the next three years.

To move the plan forward, the selected projects will take place across more than two dozen states and involve partnerships with several public agencies. Through these partnerships, the participating companies will be able to test their aircraft in real-world conditions before receiving final certification from the Federal Aviation Administration.
It is also worth noting that the eight projects selected were from a list of thirty proposals submitted to the government, which included BETA Technologies, Wisk Aero, Eve Air Mobility, Lilium (LILMF), Vertical Aerospace EVTL +1.50% ▲ , and Volocopter. According to the FAA, the program will help regulators better understand how these aircraft can safely operate within the national airspace system. Interestingly, this project was launched by an executive order from President Donald Trump that directs federal agencies to accelerate the commercialization of drone technology and advanced air mobility.
Which Air Mobility Stock Is the Better Buy?
Turning to Wall Street, out of the four stocks mentioned above, analysts think that EVTL stock has the most room to run. In fact, EVTL’s price target of $12.33 per share implies 203% upside potential.
