(MENAFN) Tehran stands prepared to finalize “a fair and equitable nuclear deal” while maintaining it has never developed atomic weapons, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi emphasized following high-level diplomatic meetings with Turkish leadership.

During Friday discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s position on nuclear negotiations and expressed appreciation for Ankara’s mediation efforts.

“In our conversations (on Friday), I reiterated that Iran has never sought nuclear weapons and is ready to embrace a fair and equitable nuclear deal that meets the legitimate interests of our people; this includes ensuring ‘No Nuclear Weapons’ and guaranteeing the lifting of sanctions,” Araghchi said on Saturday through US social media company X.

The Iranian diplomat characterized the bilateral talks as productive, addressing both Türkiye-Iran relations and shared regional security concerns. Araghchi acknowledged Ankara’s role alongside other nations in facilitating diplomatic solutions.

Tehran is “grateful for such efforts and welcomes them,” Araghchi stressed, expressing Tehran’s readiness to work with regional countries to safeguard stability and peace in the region and “shield it from unlawful aggression.”

The diplomatic engagement occurred during Araghchi’s official visit to Türkiye on Friday, signaling potential movement in regional nuclear negotiations amid ongoing tensions with Washington and escalating military posturing in the Persian Gulf.

Araghchi’s remarks indicate Iran may be positioning itself for renewed nuclear diplomacy while simultaneously pushing back against international sanctions and foreign military presence near its borders.
