Abstract generation in progress

Kroger has started closing 60 stores across the nation, primarily due to underperformance, following the failure of its proposed merger with Albertsons. The company plans to open new high-growth potential stores at an accelerated rate, confirming closures in states like Texas and others, while laying off 1,000 employees. The closures represent about 5% of its 1,239 stores.
