The Cyberspace Administration has lawfully penalized the Kuaishou platform.

In response to the recent surge of pornographic and vulgar content live streams on the Kuaishou platform, under the guidance of the National Internet Information Office, the Beijing Internet Information Office lawfully filed a case against Beijing Kuaishou Technology Co., Ltd. for suspected illegal activities. Upon investigation, it was found that the Kuaishou platform failed to fulfill its cybersecurity obligations, did not promptly address system vulnerabilities and other security risks, and did not take immediate measures such as suspending transmission or eliminating illegal information posted by users. The circumstances are serious, and the impact is severe.

On February 6, the Beijing Internet Information Office, in accordance with the Cybersecurity Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Administrative Penalty Law of the People’s Republic of China, and other laws and regulations, issued a warning and a fine of 119.1 million RMB to Beijing Kuaishou Technology Co., Ltd., and also ordered it to make corrections within a specified period, handle accounts in accordance with the law, and strictly hold responsible persons accountable.

The Beijing Internet Information Office will continue to intensify internet law enforcement efforts, strictly crack down on all kinds of illegal activities in accordance with the law, supervise website platforms to strictly implement their main responsibilities, effectively safeguard cybersecurity, protect the legitimate rights and interests of the people, and maintain a clear and clean cyberspace.
