Chinese New Year is approaching, and the festive atmosphere is growing stronger. The demand for New Year goods purchasing and holiday service consumption is also increasing. JD.com will invest over 1.3 billion yuan during the 9-day Spring Festival period, providing benefits, subsidies, and various protections for frontline workers such as delivery personnel, full-time riders, customer service representatives, and store staff through overtime pay, New Year红包, and family reunion allowances.

Over the past year, more and more colleagues have joined JD.com’s frontline employee family. To ensure that colleagues working far from home can also feel the warmth of family during the New Year, JD has implemented a series of Spring Festival cultural care initiatives across various locations, including delivery stations, logistics warehouses, JD housekeeping training centers nationwide, JD Car Maintenance, Five-Star Appliances, Qixian Small Kitchen/Coffee, JD Pharmacy stores, as well as Qixian, Huaguan, and Jiabao supermarkets. These initiatives include festive decorations, sending福字 (blessing characters), dumpling-making activities, and distributing warm winter gift packs. Among them, the “Brother’s Home” locations in Beijing, Wuhan, and other cities will also host family reunions for full-time riders and delivery brothers and sisters.

This Spring Festival marks the first New Year spent by full-time riders at JD. “After so many years in this line of work, this is the first time I’ve received statutory triple overtime pay. A formal employment contract really makes a difference,” said Li Yan, who has been delivering food in Beijing for nine years and joined JD as one of the first full-time delivery riders in March last year. Li Yan and his colleagues calculated that, including various subsidies and benefits, they could receive over 6,000 yuan in special allowances during the Spring Festival. “I also heard there’s a 24-hour dedicated safety hotline for riders, so if we encounter safety issues or emergencies, we can call anytime. It’s very reassuring!”

Full-time rider couple Zhu Hongqi and Chen Ruonan had also been delivering in Beijing for five or six years before joining JD. Their biggest dilemma was whether to go back to their hometown for the New Year or earn extra during the holiday. This year, they no longer have to worry. “The family reunion subsidy from the company allows us to bring the kids here, and we just moved into a ‘Brother’s Home’ that we applied for through the company—it’s a two-bedroom, one-living room apartment, so the kids can stay comfortably.” The couple also mentioned that their holiday shift schedule is flexible and can be applied for, allowing them to work a few concentrated days and then take a few days off. “We can earn several thousand more and also take the kids around Beijing.”

Ai Yanteng, head of the Xuhui Business Department in Fangshan, Beijing, is planning the menu for the New Year’s Eve dinner at the station. “Since the Spring Festival in 2017, we’ve been having New Year’s Eve dinners with station colleagues. Those with spouses or children who come to Beijing also join us.” Ai believes that being with family is celebrating the New Year, but being with colleagues is also a form of reunion. He plans to invite housekeeping sisters, car maintenance partners, and Qixian store colleagues from the same area—“This year, with new riders joining the station, everyone is like family, and we’ll gather together for a lively celebration.”

Housekeeping and cleaning worker Fang Yizhen received an early invitation for a New Year’s Eve dinner from her long-time client, Uncle Jiang and his wife. On Uncle Jiang’s calendar, the days Fang Yizhen visits are marked with “Fang’s visit.” It’s not just “cleaning service,” but “Fang’s visit,” which deeply touched Fang. “Uncle and Auntie always call me ‘Fang’ or ‘Daughter,’ and they often invite me to lunch. Since it’s the Little New Year, they want me to try authentic Northern dumplings, as I’m from the South.”

On January 25th, JD’s New Year Goods Festival officially kicks off. During the Spring Festival, JD employees from all over the country will continue to provide reliable, high-quality services at their posts, ensuring that global consumers enjoy a good and affordable Spring Festival shopping experience, and that every gesture of goodwill and blessing is properly delivered.
