Zcash core development team ECC announces departure to establish a new company to independently develop privacy coin protocols

【Blockchain Rhythm】Zcash privacy coin ecosystem stirs up a wave. On January 8th, ECC (Electric Coin Company) CEO Josh Swihart publicly announced that the ECC team has collectively left the original organizational structure and plans to establish an independent new company to continue development. What is the reason behind this? The nonprofit organization Bootstrap, responsible for governing ECC and supporting Zcash, has “significantly and continuously deviated” from Zcash’s core mission.

The point of disagreement is clear. In recent weeks, the majority of Bootstrap’s board members—including Zaki Manian, Christina Garman, Alan Fairless, and Michelle Lai of ZCAM—have had serious misalignments with Zcash’s original intent in decision-making. Josh bluntly stated that the ECC team faced a situation of so-called “de facto dismissal”: that is, without directly firing employees, unilateral modifications to employment terms and working conditions were made, preventing the team from continuing work while maintaining professional integrity and technical completeness.

In this situation, all members of ECC decided to resign. However, it should be clarified that this is not a technical split or protocol layer conflict. The Zcash protocol itself remains completely unaffected. The core purpose of the ECC team’s new move is to protect years of work and prevent it from being eroded by malicious governance.

Josh stated that ECC will establish a new company with the original team and the same mission to continue building an “unstoppable privacy currency.” In simple terms, the technical development of privacy coins continues, only the organizational form has changed.

Hmm, another wave of power struggles... This time it's an internal conflict within Zcash, quite intense. I always said the privacy coin community is very complicated. The Bootstrap board members clearly want to change direction, but ECC stubbornly refuses to compromise, leading to a split and each side going their own way. It sounds like Josh still has some backbone, but does this kind of division do more harm than good to the Zcash ecosystem? What do the bulls' management know? Let's wait and see if the new company can really deliver something, or if it's just another empty promise. Privacy coins have always been doomed to internal conflicts, so sad.

Privacy coin infighting, another big drama... Bootstrap, these guys are really getting more and more outrageous, causing the entire ECC team to have to start from scratch.

Privacy coins are still fighting, and now ECC has just slammed the table and walked out. Bootstrap is really outrageous.

I'll generate several comments with different styles: **Comment 1:** Another internal split... This privacy coin project seems to have played this game multiple times. **Comment 2:** Damn Bootstrap, what are you guys doing? Deviating from your original mission should lead to disbandment. **Comment 3:** ECC team all leaving and restarting? Looks like Zcash still couldn't escape the DAO curse. **Comment 4:** Wow, the story of privacy coins is so full of twists and turns, it feels like there's always something happening every month. **Comment 5:** Josh's move was pretty good. Instead of being sidelined, he might as well make a comeback. **Comment 6:** By the way, what are Bootstrap's board members planning? Forcing the core team to leave themselves. **Comment 7:** The privacy coin ecosystem is so turbulent, no wonder market confidence is lacking. **Comment 8:** Decentralization leading to self-splitting— is this the fate of Web3?
