5 Critical Mistakes in Crypto Wallets That Could Cost You Everything
If you store cryptocurrencies in the UAE or anywhere else, a small oversight can evaporate your wallet. Here are the 5 most common mistakes and how to avoid them.
Error 1: Becoming obsessed with hot wallets
Hot wallets are convenient but they're like leaving money on the table. Connected to the internet = more hacker attacks, phishing, and malware. If cybercriminals find a crack, they can empty your wallet in seconds. To hodl long-term, a cold wallet is better (Ledger, Trezor).
Error 2: Not backing up your private keys
No backup = no recovery. If you lose your device or it gets damaged, goodbye funds. Store your keys on paper, in a safe, in multiple physical locations. It's boring but mandatory.
Error 3: Falling for phishing
Fake emails, cloned sites, “special” links… all wanting you to give your data. The golden rule: only use official URLs, no shortcuts, no social media links. If someone asks you for the private key, it's 100% a scam.
Error 4: Weak password = hacked wallet
“123456” does not count. You need long, complex passwords with uppercase letters, numbers, symbols. And most importantly: unique for each platform. If you forget one, it's better than having all of them hacked.
Error 5: Ignore updates
Old software = known vulnerabilities. Hackers exploit them easily. Update your wallet app as soon as the new version is released.
The Survival Kit
Following this doesn't make you a millionaire, but at least your wallet will remain yours.
