Decentralized Finance ecosystem 53 hours of horror 25.46 million USD in stolen assets fully recovered

The DeFi sector has experienced a thrilling 53-hour turmoil, prompting deep reflection among industry insiders.

Although this hacker incident is concerning, fortunately, the hacker's methods were not sophisticated. The day after the assets were stolen, the security team successfully painted a picture of the hacker by analyzing the traces left before and after the attack. Subsequently, they collaborated with various parties both domestically and internationally, obtaining important clues and gradually narrowing down the search area. By the third day, under great pressure, the hacker took the initiative to contact the project party and began to return some of the assets. After further communication, all the stolen assets were eventually fully recovered.

Although this crisis was ultimately resolved satisfactorily, it has undoubtedly sounded the alarm for the entire Decentralized Finance industry. Amidst brief celebrations, industry professionals should take this opportunity for in-depth reflection and discussion to improve the security of the DeFi ecosystem.

Looking back at the events, on April 18th and 19th, two incidents of smart contract attacks occurred in the DeFi field, resulting in a total loss of up to $25.46 million. First, a certain DEX was attacked, but since the loss amounted to only $217,000, it did not attract widespread attention. However, just 24 hours later, Lendf.Me faced a similar attack method, with losses reaching $25.24 million, and the fund pool was almost emptied, leaving only $6 in assets.

Interestingly, during this incident, many victims sent requests to the hacker to return their assets through the notes feature on the blockchain.
