DApp seeks better landing points, Polkadot parachains may become an excellent choice

A few weeks ago, StepN became a hit in the domestic internet circle, successfully breaking into the mainstream as another application of Web3. However, StepN has not been able to maintain a positive cycle and has instead been constrained by disturbances in the financial market. At the same time, the Solana chain that supports StepN has also become congested due to its popularity. This has led to a significant deviation from the vision of blockchain and Web3.

If Web3 can still have breakout products or a wider range of user adoption, the current situation is clearly not a good infrastructure. We need to think about new possibilities between blockchain and applications, as well as new attempts between chains and DApps.

DApp is looking for a better landing spot

With the rise of mainstream public chains, a large number of DApps have begun to emerge. DApps directly connect users and developers, allowing assets to truly belong to users and possess trustworthy application attributes. DApp data is securely stored on decentralized blockchain platforms, providing high security and preventing information tampering and forgery.

Blockchain is the infrastructure for DApps, and the prosperity of the public chain ecosystem largely depends on the variety, quantity, and performance of DApps. DApps require a foundational blockchain capable of supporting their business operations. Currently, DApps mainly address the performance issues of their underlying blockchain in the following three ways:

  1. Build your own Layer 2: Taking Axie Infinity as an example, they created the sidechain Ronin based on Ethereum. Ronin uses a PoA consensus mechanism, allowing transactions to be completed almost instantly, with Gas fees being negligible.

  2. Find Layer 2 dedicated chains: Illuvium has chosen Immutable X as its underlying infrastructure. Immutable X is a Layer 2 protocol specifically developed for NFTs on Ethereum, utilizing ZK Rollups technology.

  3. Find Layer0 to create a dedicated Layer1: DeFi Kingdoms operates the subnet DFK Chain on Avalanche. The subnets of Avalanche are essentially a subset of mainnet validators with a high degree of autonomy.

Polkadot parachains may be an excellent choice for DApps

Compared to DeFi, DApp focuses more on an endogenous complete economic system. The DApp team hopes that the underlying blockchain performance meets its needs without interfering with its operation. The parachains of Polkadot have the following advantages in serving as DAppchains:

  1. High performance, theoretical TPS in the thousands, low gas fees.
  2. Dedicated parachains are not affected by other applications.
  3. Low development difficulty, allowing for quick assembly of required functions using Substrate.
  4. High security, managed by Polkadot.
  5. Advanced architecture with scalability.
  6. Compatible with EVM, facilitating the transfer from the EVM ecosystem.
  7. Strong interoperability, can safely interact with Polkadot ecosystem projects.
  8. Supports Layer 2 scalability.

However, Polkadot parachains have not yet become the preferred choice for many DApps, mainly due to the following reasons:

  1. Performance still needs improvement.
  2. The access cost is relatively high, but after the development of the parachain, it will be significantly reduced.
  3. Lack of successful cases.
  4. During the industry's downturn phase, the development of DApps is restricted.

Breaking performance constraints, the exploration of DApp application chain ideas

In the future, with the development of technology and the market's recovery, the scenario of "one DApp one parachain" may emerge in the Polkadot ecosystem. As the Web3 narrative returns to center stage, DApp applications will become more diverse, and the relationship between chains and apps may take on a new pattern. Although we cannot yet be certain whether Polkadot will become the preferred ecosystem for DApps, the "singularity" where technology and culture effectively combine will eventually arrive.
