From Airdrop to Decentralized Finance: The Transformation and Dilemmas of a Web3 Content Creator

In April 2023, I entered the crypto assets social media circle with a group of frens. At that time, we focused on writing Airdrop strategy content. Each tweet required 1-2 hours of careful preparation, yet could attract 100,000 views in just 12 hours. Our daily life revolved around this rhythm: wake up, write, post, eat, rest, and repeat.

Looking back at the past, that period can be regarded as the golden age of content creation. The influence of our small group of creators should not be underestimated, as it is estimated to account for about 10% of the attention on the entire crypto social platform.

Personally, I receive 1-2 collaboration invitations from project parties every month, hoping to leverage our influence to promote their activities. However, at that time, we valued influence more than monetary compensation.

One morning, I was surprised to find that my account with only 10,000 followers had received 400,000 views on its content. The joy brought by this sense of achievement far exceeded the numbers in my wallet (even though it was only four digits at the time, it was extremely meaningful to me because it was the first time I earned so much in my life).

This situation continued until September 2023, when the platform algorithm changed. At the same time, I temporarily left this circle and only returned in December. The reason for the temporary departure is that there were some interesting things to handle in real life, which resulted in me being able to post a maximum of three pieces of content each month.

Around August 2023, I realized that focusing on the Airdrop field was not a long-term plan and was not suitable for my development. So, I decided to transition into becoming a decentralized finance (DeFi) novice.

Looking back now, where have those once-active Airdrop content creators gone? People like ardizor and CC2 are hard to find in my information stream.

In December 2023, my crypto social career opened a new chapter. I tried a new writing style, invested more effort, improved my illustrations, and expanded my network, but paradoxically, my views decreased.

That's right, you heard it correctly, the views have indeed decreased. I am putting in much more effort than before, but the views on my tweets are only 20,000. Occasionally it can reach 100,000, but overall the situation is not as good as it used to be.

What is the current situation?

Due to the popularity of the InfoFi concept, a large amount of low-quality content is flooding the platform. The overall quality of content has significantly declined, and 99% of people posting content are motivated by "a certain protocol allocates 5% of its tokens to content creators, so I need to post more content."

The more rewards the project party allocates to content creators, the more severe the situation becomes.

Worse still, I feel that the quality of my content and investment has reached an all-time high, but the view count and the number of new followers have fallen to an all-time low.

My entire information stream is filled with worthless content from some ranking list.

In the face of this situation, how should we respond?

Perhaps during a period of market stagnation, we should strive to provide valuable content, work to improve quality, and pursue uniqueness.
